Group K - August 22

Group L - August 23

Two more Terran players made their way into the second round (of sixteen) of the OSL this weekend.

In what might be considered a surprise, managed to edge out both and Hall-of-fame player in two solid series. This young Terran will need to play the best he ever has if he plans on winning this OSL, as he is a sure underdog.

Do you play just for the sake of competition, or are you hoping to travel to Korea and become a progamer?
- For competition mostly, since my WCG is quite soon I need to practice. Going to Korea would be good but not as StarCraft progamer. There are a lot of better players who deserves to go there than me, since I do care more about my education than gaming, I would turn it down.

You are currently ranked second, with the A- rank. Which of the players on the list do you think have the biggest chance of being picked out?
- Since the first one is Pj it's quite unfair, I think it might be Nony or Fenix.

Do you think more events like this one between the Korean pro-scene and the foreign community should be organized?
- Sure it would be good to don't let Starcraft community go down. More tournaments is more better for...

International faces scarce in ASUS Summer

This edition's ASUS Open Cup goes in the sign of team spirit. Instead of the regular individual tournament, teams with 4-6 players will go at it in a ProLeague-styled team tournament. 75,000 rubels (~2169€) is at stake. In 4 days, the ASUS Summer Open 2008 will kick off.

Any tournament organization of course wants to attract as many international players as possible, this summer's tournament will be lacking players outside of Russia. The list of signed up participants counts to 10, but one of the teams in the list are forced to drop out. And it's not just any team; it's MeetYourMakers.

Signed up with Strelok, White-Ra, Dreiven and Yayba the team was considered top favorites for the top spot, but Strelok tells GosuGamers that they will not take part. Strelok and White-Ra were all set to go, but Dreiven and Yayba were not able to make...

Malaysia has been sending players to World Cyber Games since 2002, and JohnRambo has always been a part of the StarCraft squad except for 2006. This year he can enjoy yet another year waving the Malaysian flag in the World Cyber Games. Defeating the Face To Face player MarinE in the Malaysian final, James "JohnRambo" Foo could book in yet another trip, this time to Cologne.

The Malaysian WCG representant in 2006, Cobo, lost in the Loser Bracket semi finals, and could not repeat his successful 2006 year. Ending in third place was TaKaFuL, who lost to MarinE in the loser bracket final.

Aside from a ticket to Cologne, JohnRambo won 18,000 RM (3,800€) worth of prizes, where 300€ was paid out in cash.

Although IriS, aka berserker, and Pusan are both good older players with a substantial following Bisu had to be the favorite today. He's through to round two and called out July. That would be interesting indeed.

Pusan and IriS put on a bit of a show in the first games. Although there was some evident ring rust they were both impressive compared to the last OSL playday, which was not so great. Bisu then won his first game versus IriS, but got dominated in the second when he was unable to stop the big Terran push. In the third game it was all Bisu though.

The Incruit StarLeague has been great so far. This is perhaps the most one sided group so far, where most people would expect Mind to secure his spot in the second round.

The first matchup was frankly not as exciting as it might have seemed. It was a bit of a show of mediocrity and Mind is clearly a level or four above both these players who displayed somewhat bad game sense and micro. There was a DT with 30 kills in game 3 as an example of what was going on. It was a great pleasure to see Mind indeed prove that he is several levels above SangHo and that we can really look forward until round two of this OSL.
